Shaftesbury at the National 12 Hour Championships

Shaftesbury at the National 12 Hour Championships

Not only did Paul decide to take on the mammoth challenge of completing a 12 hour time trial, and therefore the BAR, he also decided to take on the National Championship running across Shropshire and North Wales.

On a blustery and at times, showery day, Paul set off at 06:08, heading out on the first of six segments and down to the first of three loops.

On an up and down course, Paul made a solid start, with the ham sandwiches being handed up every couple of hours, although clearly his support team hadn't been practicising passing up his gels! At the first pit stop Paul was in good form, lathered up and pressed on. Stopping only once more, with the ham sandwiches still being passed up, Paul continued to make strong progress against his objective of not only completing the 12 hour challenge, but also getting above 220 miles, which was a tough ask on such a lumpy, tight and twisty course.

As Paul hit the finishing circuit he continued to remain strong and rarely came out of his solid aero position.

Paul completed the 12 hour challenge recording 228.4 miles, an amazing achievement and setting him up to take the Shaftesbury BAR trophy.

A big thanks goes out to Andrew and Sarah for the support and encouragement through the day, although we're not sure Paul appreciated the suggestion from Andrew to ride back to HQ, and it's fair to say they have never seen so much chamois cream!!

Well done Paul!
